A Blogging Schedule Announcement!

A Blogging Schedule Announcement!

Just a quick update to my blogging schedule as it is seemingly not working out as I had hoped! Therefore for convenience sake I will be posting every Saturday, and will no longer be posting on Tuesday's! I hope this is alright for everyone! I just feel that the pressure to get a post up twice a week is impacting on the quality of my posts. I'm also having a severe case of writers block at the moment so that is definitely making it a struggle.

What To Know About Going Into Year 11 (Fourth Year)!

What To Know About Going Into Year 11 (Fourth Year)!

Hallo! Long time no post! I do apologise that I haven't posted in a while, but this may explain why.

You may or may not know that I'm in fourth year. If not then now you know! I also happen to be starting in to my GCSE courses. Now, I knew GCSEs weren't going to be a walk in the park, but I didn't expect them to be like this. Suddenly, I don't understand Maths (I do fast track Maths so my teacher doesn't really explain it), I've started failing tests for once in my life in subjects that I thought I was good at! It all a bit of a whirlwind of madness - and let me tell you I was not ready for it!

I went into fourth year oblivious to the amount of work that I was going to be doing. Due to this I have been overwhelmed by what each subject had 'thrown at me'. Therefore, I have compiled a list of things I feel you should be aware of when going into fourth year:

* Start your notes as soon as possible - I'm not saying you have to learn them immediately, but when exam time comes around your not stressing about not even having your notes done, never mind learning them!
*   Ask for help if you don't understand - speak to your teacher or a parent. With Maths I was a bit confused with quadratics, now we have moved on to a different topic that involves quadratics and I was so confused at the start of it because I didn't understand quadratics.
* Stop procrastinating - as they say, "procrastination is the thief of time." Click here to find out how I stop myself procrastinating!
* Understand the importance of it all - Year 11 (fourth year) doesn't seem like a big deal, but it is. This is the year you start your GCSE courses. What you learn this year will be vital foundations for your GCSEs!
* Enjoy it - it all gets harder from here! Enjoy it while it lasts. Because while it may seem like hard work now when you look back on it a few years later you'll wish things were still as easy.

I'm sorry for not posting regularly like I promised I've just been consumed by assessments at the moment. Hopefully I can try and post a little more often though!

How To Stop Procrastinating Now!

  1. the action of delaying or postponing something.
"your first tip is to avoid procrastination"
synonyms:dithering, delaying tactics, dilatoriness, stalling, temporizing, hesitationvacillation

This explains everything, why I'm up at 11pm finishing homework, why I seem to never complete things on time, why occasionally I won't post on my blog...
I am a procrastinator! Not even going to deny it. I put everything off for as long as possible, usually because I'm just not in the mood to do it or I feel that my time would be spent better elsewhere instead of doing homework. When they say, "Procrastination is the thief of time," they are not wrong. If I'm not in the mood to do something or I'm too lazy to do it then I will find some way, shape, or form of distraction to prevent doing it for as long as possible. Since I'm in fourth year and am starting into GCSEs and all that great stuff... Anyway my point is the last thing I need right now are distractions. However, the problem is they are every where! The way to stop procrastinating is to eliminate all distractions. I have decided to compile a list of how to eliminate distractions and ultimately stop procrastinating:

1. Put that phone away; personally my biggest distraction is my phone. After getting home from school I would allow myself 30 mins on my phone. I have an alarm set to ring after those 30 mins. Once the alarm rings I have to put my phone down (preferably in another room so that it's not sitting there in front of me as a distraction) and commence homework.

2. Set a deadline; make this realistic and achievable. If you know that homework is due for tomorrow then you are more likely to do it than if it is for next week. This can be great for studying. Tell yourself that you have 3 weeks to write out all your physics notes, you may find yourself working much harder and more frequently.

3. Reward yourself; set yourself targets and reward yourself once you meet them. You could say that once you have finished your English essay you will be allowed to eat some of your favourite snack. Or when you finish your history questions you are allowed 5 or 10 mins on your phone (don't allow yourself more than 15 mins or it will spiral out of control, set an alarm to remind you to go back to your homework after your time is up).

4. Stop the excuses; results matter, excuses don't. Get what you need done done. Stop all thoughts you might have of procrastination.

If you find that none of this is working I have one last tip that may just do the trick. I call it the 'last hope.'

5. The last hope; think about the very worst that could possibly happen if you don't complete this. If you have to revise for a test  but aren't feeling motivated then this too may just save your life and end your procrastination. Think how important this test is and if you fail it how annoyed your parents will be, also how you will ultimately fail all your exams because you're bad at revising, how you will not be able to go to university and will have no qualifications, which means no job which means you will have no money and it is all your own fault because you didn't revise for that test. Sounds overly dramatic and very extreme, but you may find the results to be surprising (unless you really don't care about any of that, I'd like to hope that wouldn't be the case).

Well, that's all my tips! Although these work for me they may not be as successful for you, you will have to give them a try to find out. However, please don't criticise me if you find that they don't work because everyone is different and what works for me may not work for you!
Hope you all have a lovely day and I'll post soon! Bye!

Dreaming Of Flight!

Dreaming Of Flight!

As I compose this I am sitting back in my chair at about 700 feet. The sun is beaming through the window and little, fluffy white clouds lie forming a cosy blanket just below the the wings of the plane. How wonderful it feels to be gliding through the air, as the plane sails over oceans and cities all made to feel like miniature models of towns from this great height!

It's so peaceful, not a fuming car, nor a busy factory, nor a packed city centre to be seen. Everything to do with my normal, busy city life swept away and hidden by a thick layer of cloud. All that remains to be seen is the bright, pale blue sky of this early Thursday morning.

Just think this kind of travel didn't exist merely 250 years ago. It was unheard of, non existent, now it's a simple way of life - one in which we take for granted. We no longer appreciate what was once a far off dream, the ability to fly! To think we once envied the birds, the way they gracefully beat their wings and glided through the air.

However, flying is no longer a far off dream, it's an everyday reality - one that I feel should be appreciated so much more than it is. For without it travelling would be so much more difficult, trips would be so much longer and people would therefore travel much less frequently. So next time you sitting back on your seat at around 700 feet maybe have a look out the window or think to yourself how amazing it actually is to be able to fly. Appreciate how lucky we are and don't take flight for granted, because 250 years ago flight was just a far off dream!

Thats just a little food for thought! Hope you are having an great day and I will talk to you all soon!

Top 10: Funny, Random And Outdated Laws That Still Exist In The U.K Today!

Top 10: Funny, Random And Outdated Laws That Still Exist In The U.K Today!
Hello lovelies! Todays post is a tad random, but I thought I would do it anyway because there are some hilarious laws that the U.K still have today. A lot of them are completely useless to the modern world. So here are my top 10 favourites:
  1. You cannot ride in a taxi if you have the plague.
  2. You cannot handle salmon in suspicious circumstances.
  3. MPs cannot wear armour in Parliament.
  4. It is considered treason to put a postage stamp with the monarch's head on it upside down.
  5. It is illegal to die in the houses of Parliament.
  6. All dead beached whales must be offered to the monarch before you do anything with them.
  7. It is legal for a pregnant woman to relieve herself wherever she wants, including a policeman's helmet is she so wants.
  8. It is illegal to import potatoes into England if you have reason to believe that these potatoes are Polish.
  9. It is illegal to beat or shake your carpet, mat or rug. You may beat your doormat, but only before 8am.
  10. It is illegal not to tell the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing.
There are some quite bizarre ones there aren't there? My favourite is number 2! How about you? Let me know in the comments which one you think is the weirdest. Also let me know if I should do another one of these, but this time do it for a different country. If so what country? :)
Have a good day everyone, and remember not to handle your salmon suspiciously :D

How To Choose The Right Subjects For YOU To Do At GCSE!

How To Choose The Right Subjects For YOU To Do At GCSE!

Hi! So it's currently September which means I have gone back to school. However, I have noticed that all the teachers have talked about since I have gone back is GCSEs. I am starting mine this year having chosen the subjects I want to do last year. There are those of you who probably haven't chosen your subjects yet, but may be doing that this year. If that is the case and you want a bit of help with making the right choices then I have compiled a list of ways to help you make the right choice:

As I have relatively recently done this myself I can say that this can be very challenging, especially if you have no idea what job you want to do when your older. I'm going to try and explain how to choose which subjects are right for you. The first thing you want to do is establish what job you want to do when you are older. This step is not completely necessary, but it can prove to be useful when narrowing down your options.

If you know what job you want to do:
If you have a rough idea about the line of profession that you want to go into then you can use this to your advantage. The first thing to do is research. As boring as this sounds it will be really useful to you. Not only will you be learning a bit more about that particular job, but you will also be able to find out what GCSEs are essential to that job. For example, if you want to do medicine you must study all three sciences at GCSE this means that you have to do these subjects if you want to get a job in this profession.

I now recommend putting your subjects into three lists. The first list should be the subjects that you have to do because they are required for the job you want to do. The second list should be subjects you enjoy doing, and the third should be subjects that you don't enjoy as much. If you don't like a particular subject I recommend not doing it for GCSE because you tend to perform better in subjects you enjoy. Unless it is required for the job you want to do I recommend not doing any subjects from the list which has the subjects you don't enjoy in it.

You are left with two lists now, the subjects you have to do for a particular profession and the subjects you like. Prioritise the subjects that you have to do. Then look at the list of subjects you like doing. Rank them in order by putting what you are good at the top and what you are not so good at the bottom. I recommend choosing the subjects in which you are best at from this list.

You should now have the list of subjects that would best suit you for GCSE. However, before you make the final decision discuss these choices with your parents, you Careers teacher or even an adult who does the job that you are interested in.

If you don't know what job you want to do:

To begin with you must be aware that you should keep all your options open. By doing this you are keeping as many career options open as possible. Start by categorizing your subjects into two groups, ones you enjoy doing and ones you don't enjoy as much. You will want to end up choosing as many as possible from the ones you enjoy list.

Now have a look at which list the sciences are in, they will be important because if you do not do them for GCSE then you shut down any option of doing medicine in the future. If they are in the list of subjects you like then choose them. If not then put an asterisks beside them and consider this carefully. Then do the same with subjects like English and Maths. Although in my school English and Maths are compulsory for GCSE they may not be in your school, so if they aren't then it doesn't matter whether you like or hate them, put them top of the list of the subjects you are going to be choosing. A final subject that a really recommend doing so that you are not knocking out any options is a language. I know languages aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they can be extremely important when it comes to getting a job. Also Reed Recruitment have said, "Graduates with foreign language skills can expect to earn at least 10% more than those without."

General Tips:
  • Try to choose a language. The Personnel Director of Volkswagen has said, "We would now not recruit graduates who have not spent a period of time in another country." Also a survey in Professional Manager Journal says, "70% of British companies conduct business in other countries."
  • Choose subjects you are good at and/or that you enjoy.
  • Choose a wide range so you are keeping your career options open.
  • Discuss your choices with a parent and/or your careers teacher. However, you must remember that you will be doing the subjects not them so do not let them force you to do subjects you really don't like.
I hope this helped you come to a decision about the subjects you would like to do for GCSE. If you have any questions then leave a comment or even email me.

I am not an expert when it comes to this and I recommend you consult with your teachers and parents before making your final choice. However, always remember that it is you who will be doing the subjects for GCSE not your parents or teachers, therefore choose the subjects that you are best at and enjoy.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour!

Expectation Vs. Reality: Back To School!

Expectation Vs. Reality: Back To School!
Hey lovelies!
As you are probably well aware I went back to school today. Lets just say that it was not how I expected it to go. Every year for as long as I remember I have always had these ridiculous expectations of the first day back at school. However, these expectations are usually shattered within the first few hours of school. So, today I wanted to share with you my brilliant, completely unrealistic back to school expectations for this year vs. the totally not so fun reality:
  • Expectation: Waking up on time and having plenty of time to do your hair and makeup.
  • Reality: Skipping breakfast and throwing your hair into a ponytail. Doing your makeup didn't even cross your mind because your way too busy trying to get to school on time because NOBODY wants to be late for the first day back.
  • Expectation: Everyone talks to you and asks you how your summer went.
  • Reality: No one talks to you and they are all disappointed that you still go here.
  • Expectation: Arriving in to find my squad assembled and waiting for me.
  • Reality: Waiting for ages by myself in the hallway for the squad to turn up, because their buses get into school later than mine.
  • Expectation: Spending the morning catching up with my friends and finding out how their summers where.
  • Reality: Having to sit through an hour long welcome back presentation/ school rules lecture from the principal.
  • Expectation: Expecting to be in the same classes as all your friends.
  • Reality: Finding out that you are in some of the same classes as your friends, but because teachers love making everyone sit in alphabetical order your friend is at the other side of the room.
  • Expectation: Sitting at your squads usual table at break and lunch.
  • Reality: Having to find a new squad table because apparently people don't "own tables in the canteen" and people can "sit where they like" because they "got there first".
  • Expectation: Going home thinking that this is going to be a great year.
  • Reality: Going home dreading tomorrow.
I have to admit that it wasn't the worst first day back, but when your expectations were as high as mine then it doesn't really leave room for "best first day back ever!" Well, as they say, "the first day is always the worst day!"
I quickly wanted to let you know that I will be blogging on Tuesday and Saturday as promised. However, please forgive me if I end up posting my Tuesday posts late because I will have homework to do because on Tuesdays I have History, double French, double Maths and triple English. This will mean that I will most likely get homework for all of these :(
Anyway I hope the rest of your week is amazing and see you on Saturday! :)

Expectation Vs. Reality: Summer Holidays!

Expectations Vs. Reality: Summer Holidays!

 Sup y'all!
Well, with summer drawing to a close I have plenty of time to reflect upon my summer. I can reflect on how I spent it and what I did. However, after doing this I realized that my summer was no where near what I thought it was going to be. Yes my expectations were high. I had hoped for the best summer ever; good weather, lots to do etc. The reality was the complete opposite. I am not going to even lie to you, after some serious reflecting I realised my summer consisted of binge watching on Netflix, stalking 5 Seconds of Summer and a billion games of golf - not my ideal summer! With that in mind I decided to share with you my awesome summer expectations vs. my utterly disappointing summer reality:

Expectation: Getting to lie in for as long as you want.
Reality: Being woken up early to walk the dog.

Expectation: Doing something exciting everyday and creating summer memories
Reality: Spending day after day binge watching on Netflix.

Expectation: Seeing your friends nearly everyday.
Reality: Disappearing off the face of the earth and therefore seeing no one till you have to go back to school.

Expectation: Sunshine all day everyday.
Reality: Rain all day everyday, with sunshine on the day you go back to school. (Okay lets face it I never had any expectations for sunshine, after all I live in the U.K! Sunshine all day everyday is a far off magical dream over here.)

Expectation: Having a summer romance.
Reality: Mentally dating your celebrity/YouTube crush.

Expectation: Beach every weekend.
Reality: Doesn't want to leave the Wi-Fi so scrolls through Tumblr for hours instead.

Expectation: Getting a gorgeous tan.
Reality: Is too busy stalking your favourite celeb. to leave the house and therefore remains the pale-skinned vampire you are.

Expectation: Wears stunning new summer clothes they got when going out shopping with your friends.
Reality: Refusing to take off your favourite pair of sweats all summer.

Well, after all that I can gladly say, "Summer well spent!" Just kidding, that was possibly the most unproductive summer in the history of unproductive summers. The only plus side to this summer was starting this blog, which I have loved every minute of. :)

Do you agree with any of these? If so let me know down in the comments! Also if you have any more "Expectation Vs. Reality" ideas then feel free to let me know. :)

Till next time friends! :)

A Blogging Schedule Announcement!

A Blogging Schedule Announcement!

Hey y'all!
I just wanted to let you know that because I am going back to school very soon that it will put limits on the amount of times I will be able to post in a week. Therefore I have decided to only post on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I am sorry about this, but with school up and coming I don't want to end up with posts that are more quantity over quality. I think it's best if I post less quantity and more quality so that is how I will be solving that. However, this may change depending on what my school timetable looks like. If for example I end up with two periods of maths on Tuesday then I might change it to Wednesday, because I always get tonnes of maths homework. Anyway, I'll let you know if any changes are made, but till then I will be posting every Tuesday and Saturday. :)

The Fun Questions Tag!

The Fun Questions Tag!

How are you? Today I am going to be attempting to do the Fun Questions Tag. Feel free to answer these questions in the comments if you like! :)

1. When is your birthday? (You don't have to include the year if you don't want to.)
24th May

 2. What are 3 of your favourite colours?
Green, blue and pink

3. What are your 3 favourites quotes?
Wait, only three? I have so many favourite quotes therefore this took me a ridiculously long period of time to narrow it down to three. These aren't my absolute favourites, I have lots, but theses are the three that made the cut:

  1. People cry not because they are weak, but because they have been strong for too long. - Johnny Depp

  2. Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, then it's not the end. -Unknown

  3. Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it's stupid. -Albert Einstein
 4. Are you addicted to YouTube?
Eh no... *closes the YouTube tab that just so happened to be open...*

 5. What are 3 of your favourite shows on TV or YouTube or both

  1. Once Upon A Time

  2. Pretty Little Liars

  3. Doctor Who
6. What are 3 qualities you like in a best friend?
Loyal, caring and funny.

7. Do you like your name?
Not really.

8. If you have the choice to pick your own name, what will it be?
I love the name Amelia, but I am not sure if it would suit me...?

9. What is your fantasy dream?
To meet 5 Seconds of Summer! (don't judge!)

10. Do you wear makeup?
A bit.

11. If you could write a book, what would the title be and what would it be about?
It would be called, "One Hundred Book Titles and What They Could Be About". This book would help give me inspiration to answer this question.

12. What makes you cry?
Books, movies and anything sad basically. (Wow I need to man up!)

13. What makes you angry?
People hating on others.

14. What makes you happy?
Watching my favourite YouTubers..., hanging out with my friends, listening to music.

15. What is "Fangirling?
Well according to the Oxford dictionary:

Definition of fangirl in English:

A female fan, especially one who is obsessive about comics, film, music, or science fiction: your average fangirl, despite the implication of the name, is a grown-up
More example sentences:
  • You're not one of those obsessive fangirls, are you?
  • As much of an obsessive fangirl as she can be, she's incredibly down to earth, calm in every situation and able to see hope in just about every cause.
  • Of course I might have been just a tad partial considering that they employed one of my best friends and I could be a total fangirl over some of the books Big C wrote.

(Of a female fan) behave in an obsessive or overexcited way: I’m still fangirling over this casting

16. What are your 3 favourites snacks?

cookies, strawberries and crumpets. ( I know crumpets are the most stereotypical British food ever, but they taste so good!)

17. What are your 3 favourite foods?
Crispy aromatic duck pancakes, curry and potatoes.

18. What are your 3 favourite drinks?

Chocolate milk, tea (the most stereotypical British drink, sorry  but I love tea!) and water.

 19. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I have shortened my name (because I don't really like it) to use as my blog name. I think you all probably guessed that El was shortened from something else, but just in case you didn't know. I am a obsessive Potterhead and I love to read! I love to listen to music, in particular 5 Seconds of Summer and Taylor Swift. That's all I can think of...

20. What are 10 random facts about you?
  1. I am a Potterhead.
  2. I want to travel the world some day.
  3. My favourite colour is green.
  4. I always choose books over movies.
  5. I have an obsession with scented candles.
  6. I literally have to write everything  in blue biro pen. (this is extremely weird.)
  7. I love the word "walrus".
  8. My lucky number is 12.
  9. One of my favourite modern day actors is Johnny Depp. (I love old films and actors like Gregory Peck that's why I said modern day.)
  10. One of my biggest fears is drowning,

 21. What are your 3 fun things to do?
  1. Listen to music.
  2. Chill with my friends.
  3. Watch movies.

I was in the mood to do a tag so I thought I should give this a go. I hope you enjoyed it and you learnt a bit more about me. Feel free to do this tag if you want to and let me know in the comments if you do it or have done it so I can check it out. :)

Till next time!

How To Survive That First Day Back To School - Back To School Blues!

Back to School Blues!

Hello everyone!

I have recently found myself constantly thinking about September, in particular, September 1st! Yes, that's the day I go back to school. It is drawing nearer and I have now found myself staring at my calendar thinking, "But I am almost certain it was July last week." Well, it wasn't and in fact September 1st is this time next week. I dread school as much as the next person. This is because those days of lying in till half ten are over for the first five days of the week. Except for Saturday and Sunday I will have to get up everyday at quarter past seven, and because I am not a morning person this is pure torture. Of course I also deeply hate the idea of spending 6 hours or so in the sitting around in a classroom and instead of listening to music I have to listen to ranting teachers. I would rather spend those valuable 6 hours on the comfort of my couch at home, in my pyjamas, watching Netflix.

However, despite my reluctance I will just have to deal with it like everyone else. From experience the first day is always the worst. After the first day you can sort of get into a routine and it gets easier. That first day though is always the killer, so if you can survive that then you're already doing great!

These are my tips on how to survive that ghastly first day back:

  • Go to sleep early. This one is essential and will be a determining factor for being able to get up when your alarm rings that dreaded morning. There is no use staying up till midnight the night before and then having to drag yourself out of bed the next morning because you're so tired. You will then spend the rest of the day dragging yourself from A to B like the sleep deprived zombie you are.
  • Have a good breakfast. A good breakfast will make you happier. By eating healthy breakfast foods like muesli, porridge or toast you will have better attention span for the day, this can help make lessons a bit easier to sit through.
  • Dress appropriately. Although in my school it is compulsory to wear your school uniform, you school may not require you to wear a uniform. If this is the case then I recommend that you wear something comfortable for your first day.
  • Don't be late. Seriously if you turn up late halfway through the year it is absolutely fine. However, turning up late on your first day back is never a good thing. Usually when I'm running late it stresses me out and puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the day. If that happens to you too then avoid being late, the last thing you need is something to worsen you already bad mood.
  • Stay positive. This may sound impossible but if you can remain positive this may rub off on your class mates and put them in good form.
  • Pack a nice lunch. I recommend packing yourself one of your favourite unhealthy snacks for the first day back - comfort food will be there for you on this dreadful day.
  • Be organised. Pack everything the night before so that you don't have to worry about it the next morning and so nothing is forgotten.
There are a lot of ways to make your first day easier, but these are just a few that came off the top of my head. I hoped this helped some of you. To those of you who are actually excited to go back to school then this article probably made you think that those of us who aren't are incredibly weird , especially after seeing that we dread it so much that we set up a survival list on how to get through the day.

Hope you all have an awesome first day, if that's even possible. Also let me know in the comments how your first day back and tell me if it was as bad as you thought it was going to be. If you are not back at school yet then let me know if you are excited to go back or are you just dreading it.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour!

Why Is Change So Scary?

Why Is Change So Scary?

Hello Everyone! Hope you are all having an awesome day! Today I wanted to talk to you about change. I'm sure everyone can relate when I say the word change. We have all experienced some sort of change in our lives. Some people have experienced larger or more significant changes than others. This can be the change from primary school to secondary school or maybe something much bigger. Anyway, my point is that change is something we can all relate to, we can't avoid it because it's just another part of life. However, at times it can seem very scary and I want to know why it makes us sick to our stomachs.

Before we jump in to this, what exactly is change? Well, according to the Oxford Dictionary:

verb: change; 3rd person present: changes; past tense: changed; past participle: changed; gerund or present participle: changing
  1. 1.
    make or become different.
"a proposal to change the law"

  2. 2.
take or use another instead of.
"she decided to change her name"

You may be wondering why I decided to create a blog post for such a deep topic. Well, if you are then it's story time. If you aren't then oh well because this next bit is very significant to this post and may help tie things together for you. So whether you want a story or not, I'm going to tell you one anyway:

Yesterday evening my cousins who are currently staying at my grandmother's house (which is just slightly down the road) came over along with their parents, my aunt and uncle, and my grandmother. They are over from Scotland for the summer so we had invited them round for dinner.

We ate in a separate room from the adults because there wasn't enough room. Throughout dinner my oldest cousin Harry* kept asking me about the school system over here and the difference between it and the Scottish one. I answered all his questions, and explained everything he wanted explained. "So, I would be in what year if I went to school here?" he asked.
"Well, you are a year younger than me so you would be going into year 10 (third year)  if you went to school over here," I replied.
"What about me?" asked Harry's younger brother Charlie*.
"You would be in year 9 (second year) if you went to school over here," I answered.
"What about George*?" enquired Charlie looking over at his younger brother.
"You are nearly seven aren't you, George?" I asked. George nodded.
"Alright," I said, "George you would be going into Primary 4."
"Oh right!" exclaimed Harry, " So although I would only be going in to second year in Scotland, I would actually be going into third year over here?"
"Yes," I replied.
I failed to notice anything unusual about these questions or the sudden interest they had in my school life. However, later on I found out the reason for their interest. After a big announcement, that involved everyone gathering in the TV room, we were told that they were moving. Due to their Dad's new job they had to either move here or to Glasgow. They didn't know anyone in Glasgow, but pretty much all their cousins lived over here so they decided that here would be the best place. We were the first cousins they had told and they were anxious to see our reaction. We were thrilled, of course and very excited.

The rest of the evening was spent with everyone quite spread out. The adults went back to the room they had been occupying before the announcement. My brother, sister and George went to play on the Xbox, while Harry, Charlie and I watched a movie. Harry occasionally telling me how weird it was that they were moving over here.

I found out later that they had only found out about the move about an hour before they came round for dinner. Harry hadn't been happy with the idea and I understood why. I couldn't do it myself, leave everything behind. They now had to leave the little town in Scotland which all three of them had been born in and no doubt each knew like the back of their hand. They were leaving that to move across the sea to a huge city that despite the fact they came over annually to visit they barely knew anything about. They were leaving all their friends, everyone they knew!

So this is an example of a big change one which must seem very scary for my cousins, but why.

1. Fear of the Unknown: Well, as they say, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is the fear of the unknown." As human beings we do not like any nasty, unexpected surprises, that may be why the unknown is so utterly scary to us. This form of fear ties in very well with the 'fear of the new or different' because we don't know that much about what we are dealing with. When moving to a new school, for example, there are a lot of questions that we ask ourselves such as 'Will everyone like me?' or 'What if no one talks to me?' The important thing is not to think about all that. Don't let it get in your head, especially the 'what if ' questions. The 'what ifs' are the worst as your mind is contemplating the worst possible things that could happen. Then fear kicks in and makes you scared of the change in you life that is happening.

2. Unexpected: Some changes comes out of nowhere and are therefore unexpected. You haven't had time to think things through properly and you have therefore made a poor decision. Or worse, just like my cousins you didn't get a say. That was it, it was all decided for you by someone else or by life. When change comes out of the blue you have less time to mentally prep yourself for it and this makes it harder to adapt to the change.

3. Can We Cope With It: This is very important, if our mind thinks we can cope and quickly adapt to this new change then it won't be that big of a deal. The easier it is to cope with a particular change, the less scary it will be. If we feel like it is too much for us to handle our mind will begin to fear the worse.

How to Face Change

Fear is all mental and the way to overcome it is to accept and acknowledge your fears, you can then work on tackling them. Ask yourself  "What is scaring me?" "What are the consequences I am fearing?" "What is the best way to help deal with this change?" "Who can I rely on to help me?" The thing about change is that once you are aware of it you can't pretend it is not going to happen. Instead look at ways that will make the change easier to cope with. Depending on the change, see if it is avoidable. The change for my cousins is unavoidable therefore the best thing for them to do is to prepare for it.

Well guys I'm no expert on change that is just my understanding of it, however if it helped you in any way then that's great! Sorry that this was such a long post I just thought it was necessary because it is relevant for everyone at some point in their lives

* = all names were changed for privacy purposes, and yes I am aware that the names I changed them too are characters in Harry Potter! ;)

I'm Back/Back To School Rant!

I'm Back/Back To School Rant!

Hi everybody, I'm back from Spain. I had an amazing time! Thanks so much for all the lovely comments I got when I was away. I will be posting as often as I can now that I'm back with Wi-Fi.

I just got my school uniform the other day, which was sort of a downer. I always get my school uniform near the start of the summer. It is then put in my wardrobe until school begins. However, till then every time I open my wardrobe it serves as a constant reminder that summer will eventually come to an end and that in just over a months time I will be sitting in the class room again.
I needed to get a new blazer because the one from last year had ink stains on the inside pocket due to my pen exploding in it on the third last day. I mean come on, the third last day. It survived the whole year only to be destroyed on the THIRD LAST DAY! Note to self: Don't keep pens in your pocket, it never ends well.
While I'm dreading of going back to school my younger brother, who is starting first year (year 8), is super excited to be starting school. According to my mum that's what I was like when I was going into first year (year 8). However, considering this year I'm going into fourth year (year 11) I am cherishing every day I have before I go back to school!

Well sorry about that school rant, I'm sure that that is the last thing you want to be hearing about right now, unless you're not from the western world and you are actually still at school, in that case I'm sorry for talking about summer holidays! Anyway let me know in the comments if you guys are on your summer holidays, and if so (stupid question here) are you excited to be going back to school?

Hope you are all having an awesome day and I'll post soon!

Adios Amigos!

Adios Amigos!
Hey y'all!
I wanted to briefly inform you that I am going on holiday for ten days. Depending on Wi-Fi being available or not I may only be able to post a few or maybe even no blog posts. However, I will be back to posting as often as I can when I come back home.
Will see you all soon!
PS: The lack of Wi-Fi will also mean that I won't be able to check my inbox for a few days, so please take that into consideration. Although I probably won't reply right away, still feel free to email me if you have any questions, or even if you just want to say hi!

The Harry Potter Tag!

The Harry Potter Tag!
I'm curled up in an armchair with a mug of hot jasmine tea resting on the table beside me, life is good! (although it is summer it is raining in the UK at the moment. Typical!)
Hey there! I'm super excited for todays post and I hope you enjoy it because I know I'm going to love doing it.

1. Favourite book?
Has to be Order of the Phoenix!

2. Favourite movie?
Deathly Hallows part 2 because of the epic finale!

3. Least favourite book?
Chamber of Secrets, I just feel it wasn't very exciting compared to the rest of the book. But hey that's just my opinion.

4. Least favourite movie?
Probably Goblet of Fire.

5. Parts of the books/movies that made you cry?
Sirius' death, Dobby's death, Fred's death, Hedwig's death, Lupin's death... yeah, basically all the deaths.

6. If you could hook up with any HP character who would it be?
I'm literally not sure!

7. Favourite character?
Apart from the golden trio it would have to be Sirius.

8. Least favourite character?
James Potter, especially after seeing how horrible he was to Snape.

9. Least favourite line?
In the fifth movie when Bellatrix has killed Sirius and she runs out calling, "I killed Sirius Black!" or when Fred says, "When I get married I'm going to put a full Body-Bind curse on mum till it's over."

10. Favourite line?
There are so many, but I'm only going to name one or two:
"Ron! A prefect! That's everyone in the family", Mrs Weasley said. "What are Fred and I, next door neighbours?" said George.
"You have the emotional range of a teaspoon," -Hermione

11. What your Patronus be?
I don't know... a unicorn?

12. If you could have the Resurrection Stone, Invisibility Cloak or the Elder Wand which would you choose?
Definitely the Invisibility Cloak, think of all the 5sos concerts you could sneak into (or concerts in general, it doesn't have to be 5sos, it's just whatever floats your boat!)

13. What house would you be in?

14. If you could meet any member of the cast who would it be?

15. Have you played any of the video games?
Yes, Order of the Phoenix, Deathly Hallow part 1 and Deathly Hallows Part 2.

16. If you were in the Quidditch team what position would you play?
Despite the fact the I am short sited I would want to play seeker.

17. Were you happy with the ending?
Nope! I hate the way it finished with them all grown up and everything is perfectly fine because now there is no chance of a sequel - I know J.K Rowling never wanted to write one but still... Also I hate the way there were so many deaths in the Battle of Hogwarts. I know it makes it realistic, but why make us go through so much pain helplessly watching some of the most loveable characters be killed off? RIP Fred, Lupin, Tonks and everyone else who died! (I'm now g to go cry for a while!)

18. How much does HP mean to you?
It was my childhood and I will never forget it!

Well that's it! Let me know if there are any other tags you want me to do.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

How To Keep Cool During Summer!

How To Keep Cool During Summer!

Summer brings the sunshine... or it should do anyway. That is unless you live in the UK, like me, then summer doesn't neccesarily bring warmer weather! However, if you live somewhere where the weather gets hot during summer or if it's one of those rare occasions that the sunshine visits the UK then here are the best life hacks for keeping cool.

  • Clothing:
  1. Try to wear loose fitting clothes as tight clothes will be come uncomfortable.
  2. Wear cotton, other materials are much better at absorbing heat so they will make you warmer.
  3. Keep the colours light. Darker colours are very good at absorbing heat and will therefore mean that you will end up sweating like crazy!
  4. Wear socks because there are more sweat glands in your feet than any other part of your body. Sock will be able to absorb the sweat.
  5. Wear a hat. It keeps the sun off your face and if the brim is wide enough it may even be able to keep the sun off your neck.
  • Sweating It Out:
  1. Take a hot shower because sweat is the way our body cools itself down. By taking a hot shower you are making yourself sweat and in the process cooling yourself down quicker.
  2. If you don't want the hassle of showering then you can drink a hot drink. It works the same way.
  • Food:
  1. Eat less food. Stop eating such big meals. By eating you are causing your body to produce heat.
  • Refresh:
  1. Create a DIY mist spray by putting water in a bottle which has a spray nozzle at the top. Then put it in the fridge and spray your face whenever you feel too warm.

Well lovelies that is just a handful of tips on how to keep cool this summer. Have a lovely summer, and stay cool!

What Is It Like To Get Your Ears Pierced?

What Is It Like To Get Your Ears Pierced?

Hello lovelies! Recently I was talking to one of my younger cousins who I haven't seen in ages. Since that time I have gotten my ears pierced. She noticed this and asked me what it was like to get them done. When it comes to those who don't have their ears pierced there are a lot of questions about it. These consist of: did it hurt, is it true they use a gun?, and a bunch of others. So I am now going to attempt to explain what it's really like to get your ears pierced. Be prepared because I am going to be brutally honest with you about the whole process. However, although it was relatively recently I can't really remember how painful it was or anything like that. I think the human brain just blocks out pain...? Anyway enough ranting let's jump right into it!

When Getting Them Pierced:
  • Before you even go to get them done I recommend putting your hair in a ponytail so that it is out of the way. You will probably be asked to do this anyway if you arrive with your hair down.
  • The first thing you do is choose your studs. I had the choice of three, but that may be different for you depending on where you are getting your ears pierced.
  • They will then get a disinfectant wipe and clean your ear lobe; and no this does not hurt one bit.
  • Next they will get a marker and put a dot on each ear lobe to show where they want each earring to go.
  • Finally, they bring out the gun. Not to worry! It is not a fully loaded rifle, it is small and not very scary looking. It will probably look something like this:
  • They will take the earrings out of the bag and load them into the gun. The gun will be held right beside your ear (when my friend was getting her ears pierced she thought that they were going to stand at the other side of the room and use her ear as target practice!) and lined up with the marker dot.
  • When it is fired it will hurt, but not that much! I can not stand pain at all and I managed to remain calm and get the other one done without uttering a single swear word. So if I, of all people, can do it then so can you! The only thing I have to warn you about is the sound it makes when it is fired. Be prepared for it. I wasn't and it scared the living daylights out of me!
  • It may sting a bit through the day, but that all depends. Personally one of my ears hurt the whole day and the other was absolutely fine!
After Getting Them Pierced:
  • The most important thing to do is keep it clean. When you are getting your ears pierced the person piercing it should tell how to keep it clean. If they don't then make sure to ask. I was told to clean my ears everyday with a solution made of lukewarm water and salt.
  • It will bruise. This is perfectly normal, just remember something has just been shot through it!
  • Make sure your hair doesn't get tangled in your earrings as this could lead to infection.
That's is all you need to know about getting your ears pierced. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask down in the comments or you could email me! Whatever floats your boat! Good luck for getting your ears pierced!

How To Survive That Summer Holiday Plane Journey!

How To Survive That Summer Holiday Plane Journey!
Summer has officially begun and I am very excited about the prospect of going on holiday. I am going to Spain! How about you? Let me know if you are going anywhere on holiday in the comments! However, the one thing I can not stand about going on holiday is the 'going' part. This is mainly due to stressful plane journeys. If you too find plane journeys stressful and annoying then not to worry! I have compiled a list of ways to make your plane journey a bit more relaxing!
  • When it comes to carry-ons although a handbag looks nice it is not practical and you will soon find it will become heavy to haul around. Instead opt for a backpack, if you find a nice backpack that you like then swapping out the handbag shouldn't really be a problem.
  • You will have to carry your carry-on bag (obviously) so pack light. Only bring what you need. I have already made a list of my essential carry-ons which you can see in a new browser window by clicking here!
  • Wear comfortable clothes! I cannot stress this enough. You don't be stuck on a 12 hour flight in a pair if tight skinny jeans. My personal go to outfit would probably include leggings and a t-shirt. Although it is summer, bring a light jacket because from personal experience planes can get quite cool especially if everyone has their air conditioner blasting.
  • Wear your hair down or in a plait. Although ponytails and buns are everyone's go to hairstyle for long journeys, they are not comfortable. I personally can't get to sleep when my hair is in a ponytail because it digs into my head, but that's just my opinion.
  • Bring a light blanket and pillow for extra comfort if you want to sleep on the flight.
  • If you don't enjoy the thought of flying then your best option is to keep yourself occupied. Whether that's by listening to music, sleeping, reading a book or magazine or even talking to your fellow passengers. Another option that I recommend is writing a diary about your flight experience or even writing a small story about a chosen topic.
  • My last tip is too arrive early so that you are not rushing around. This means you can go through the security and all at your own pace, it also means that it won't be to crowded which may make things easier if you have anxiety. Plus while you are waiting for your plane you can browse around the stores and grab a coffee too (or a tea if you prefer, I know I do!).
Well guys that's all the tips I have to offer about surviving plane journeys. I hope you all have a wonderful trip and a safe journey!

What To Take In Your Carry-Ons: Summer Holiday Edition!

What To Take In You Carry-Ons: Summer Holiday Edition!

Hey Y'all!
As I am sure you are all aware July has begun! That means summer has officially begun! We can now chill and enjoy the sun and the newfound free time that we have. I, like many of you, am going on holiday and as usual I am very excited. I decided to this make this post to help you with the stress of packing. In particular the stress of packing your carry-on. These are my must-have carry-on essentials:

  • My phone - This one is a tad obvious, but I decided to put it in anyway.
  • My earphones - If you love listening to music, like me, then you will know this to be an essential. Even if you aren't that keen on music you can listen to an audio book, may I take this moment to recommend audible especially considering they have a 30 day free trial option and currently are giving you the opportunity to try one of any of their audio books for free! Seriously go check it out! I think I just like anything to help tune out the noise of my fellow passengers!
  • A good book - I am currently reading Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, I'm loving it and I may do a book review on it once I'm finished it.
  • My make-up bag - Just in case you want to do any touch-ups on the plane...?
  • My laptop - Pretty much follows suit with my phone, plus who says you need Wi-Fi to write blog posts!
  • Camera - You don't want to be rummaging around in your suitcase for this, especially if you are going to a place known for it's stunning views. In my opinion you want your camera on hand and ready for action!
  • A pillow and a light blanket - For those long flights that you want to sleep through.
  • Snacks - If you are like me and are not too keen on aeroplane food then come prepared. You may just be a fussy eater and are worried you won't like any of the food served on the plane, either way bring snacks!
  • Sunglasses and sun cream - So that when the plane lands you are ready to take on the sun!
This is pretty much everything I bring in my carry-on on a normal summer holiday flight. I hope this list helped ease that packing stress and I hope you have a lovely holiday! I am going to Spain which I'm really looking forward to! How about you? Let me know where you are going down in the comments.
